Fewer than 30% of Guernsey's eligible under-35s have registered to vote, according to the island's election office.
Islanders head to the polls in just over 70 days to elect the next the States of Guernsey – the island's government.
Once registered, eligible Guernsey residents who are at least 16 on polling day on Wednesday 18 June can vote in the islandwide general election, which will see 38 deputies elected to the States. The deadline to register on the electoral roll is 30 April.
Rosie, 18, said: "It's really important. This is an island I'm planning on living on for a long time, so why would I not want to have my say."
She said it was important the people she voted for were relatable and represented what she stood for.
Rosie said: "I think there are some [I can relate to] more than others."
"Last time I wasn't old enough to vote, but, when my dad was going through the process and looking at them, I had a read through some of the manifestos with him.
"There were some I related to more with others, especially deputies who are looking at the environment and things like that."
Some young people said they did not feel represented by current deputies and politics was not for them.
Kash, who has just turned 18, said: "I haven't registered to vote as I don't have a particular interest in it.
"Politics is just something I feel happens in the background."
